you can't always get what you want

Sweet dreams are made of this, who am I to disagree. It's not easy. Without wanting to complain, life can be a bitch. After having failed my driver's exam today there is one thing I realized: without true dedication, things will not come your way. It's a lesson to keep in mind when travelling the Middle east. Commitment is essential, without it there is no reason to explore the unknown.

The coming two and a half month I will be travelling throughout the Middle East. I can't describe exactly how I rolled into this strange adventure, but it's my strong belief everything happens for a reason (a wise man once said). When I applied for the Nour programme, it was my aim to do an internship. After the first course 'dictatorship and democracy in the Middle East' I found out there was an exchange programme attached, and I thought 'why not'. Three weeks later I quit the course 'political leadership' to spend all my time to the Middle East. I decided to write my bachelor thesis about the ideologist of the Iranian Revolution and the ideologist of Al Qaeda. This was thanks to Mariwan Kanie, my creative outbursts are hardly worth mentioning and I thank him for the great idea. When Monney came to visit past weekend and invited me to come over to Dubai and Iran, my journey was complete. Although my original thoughts for this summer were different, I realize now you can't always get what you want. But if you try some time, you'll get what you need.

So the itinerary as so far: 02-06 Amsterdam - Erbil. 12-06 Erbil - Amman. 18-06 Amman - Cairo. 20-06 - 31-07 Explore Egypt. 01-08 Cairo - Dubai. 06-08 Dubai - Tehran. 12-08 Tehran - Amsterdam.

Thursday I will leave the country. This night made me realize, in the tradition of Ziggy Marley, that without friends it's impossible to live. I want to thank everybody for the things they've done. "Love is my religion". You can take it or leave it.

Because of the many reguests, I will try to keep you posted as much as possible. I will try to keep emotion in place and tell about my experiences as lively as possible.

  1. Jort! Haha!! Was weer genieten deze avond! Je gaat overmorgen richting het oosten, gaat het heel chill hebben en snel verliefd worden op een lokale chima carima. Ik verwacht veel purd stories op je blogga, zodat ik kan zeggen: “tja jort, everything happens for a reason, a wise man once said. Dedication zit in je blood bro, thus dont sweat about that! And enjoy the twip!! Love )Peet

  2. All the best my friend. I am honored that you used my quote - my working principle in my own life - on your blog: "I will not allow what is not in my control to prevent me from doing what is in my control"
